SAKHI
Andhrathari, Madhubani, Bihar
SAKHI has been working in North Bihar since 1990. It began in Madhubani’s Andhrathari block, working with fisherwomen to come together, access government ponds on lease, improve their farming and harvesting practices, and grow their yields and incomes.
Over the years, that work has grown across Bihar, spanning livelihoods, fisheries, agriculture and makhana, alongside health, education, sanitation and child protection.
In Mithila, generations of fisher communities have grown and processed makhana. SAKHI works alongside these communities to strengthen farming and processing practices and help build more sustainable livelihoods.
Since 2026, Karta is working with farmers through SAKHI, building on the trust and relationships their team has nurtured in the region over decades.
